Vikki’s Candlelight Ledger – Entry: On Being Where It Matters

There are seasons where everything slows down, whether you planned for it or not.

This is one of them.

I’m currently away, spending time with my Ma while she starts her chemo.

It’s not dramatic, not chaotic — just quiet, steady days that look very different from the usual rhythm.

Rain on the windows.
Leftover KFC for lunch.
Paperwork is being done at the kitchen table.
A slower pace than I’m used to, but one that feels exactly right.

There’s a strange kind of clarity that comes with this kind of time.

The to-do lists don’t disappear — they just… lose their urgency.
The business is still there.
The ideas are still there.
The Fold is still there.
But right now, they’re not the centre of the day.

Family is.

Not in a big, loud, “look at me choosing family” kind of way.
Just in the simple act of being present. Sitting in the same room. Sharing meals, letting the day unfold, without trying to optimise it.

And if I’m honest, that’s something I think a lot of us forget how to do.
We get so used to filling every gap with productivity that we forget that some moments aren’t meant to be filled — they’re meant to be sat with.

So for now, things are a little quieter here.
The Fold hasn’t gone anywhere.
It’s just… resting alongside me for a while.

There will be time for creating, planning, and building again.
There always is.

But right now, this is the work:
Be here.
Be present.

Let this season be what it is, without trying to turn it into something else.

If you’re in a slower season too — whether by choice or not — you’re not behind.

You’re just where you need to be.
