Sayge’s Field Notes – Entry 001 - The Great Foldswhale

Location: Brimham Rocks, Northern Edges of the Fold
Picture
Somewhere between memory and moss, I found it.
It was early morning when the mists rolled thick across the stones. The kind of mist that hushes the world and wraps you in quiet wonder. I wasn’t seeking anything in particular—only walking, notebook in hand, as I often do when the Fold feels near.
And then I saw it.

A vast, rounded shape half-sunk into the hillside, its silhouette arching like a breaching whale. At first, I thought it was coincidence. Stone and time. But then the valley shifted—something subtle, something unseen—and I knew.
The Great Foldswhale.
A creature not made of flesh, but of memory. Formed in the folds of forgotten dreams and silent sighs. Said to surface only when the world softens enough to listen.
Legends say it carries the weight of old stories—those never spoken aloud but felt deep in the chest. Stories of loss, longing, quiet courage… and hope.
They also say that if you sit with it long enough, it might show you a glimpse of your own hidden truth. Not with words. But in stillness. A kind of knowing that blooms in your bones.
I left a thread of red yarn draped over the stone—just in case it returns. Or perhaps, in case it never left.
If you ever wander where the land looks like it’s remembering something… keep your heart open. The Great Foldswhale might just breach for you, too.
